November 17, 2012 Open Board Meeting

by Buz Whelan

Highlights of the November open board meeting include the creation of two new ad hoc committees, one on renewable energy, the other on emergency planning. Both of the new committees are seeking members. If you’re interested in joining either or both, contact the board through the website.

During his message President Al Leslie reported that careful investigation has shown the ‘party house’ landlord has been complying with Emerald Lakes rules to the letter. Mr. Leslie suggested that any observed rules or law violations by renters should immediately be reported to EL Public Safety (for rules violations) and Pocono Mountain Regional Police for violations of law. Bob Leon repeated the suggestion made by this writer at the October open meeting that we pass a regulation against weekend rentals. While existing rental properties might be grandfathered it would prevent the further spread of this ‘cancer’ through the community.

GM Allen Roth announced that the compactor would be closed on Thanksgiving but would be open the following day, Friday, November 23rd. He also reported that a more favorable recycling contract with a new company is expected to save up to 1/3 of current recycling costs.

President Leslie informed the room that goals and objectives have been formulated for the standing and ad hoc committees and read several of these. Written copies will be given to each committee.

Reporting on the Appeals Committee, Chairperson Paul Capozzoli warned that appeals based on ignorance of rules or previous good behavior will not be successful. He said that numerous members, having been cited, appealed the citation by stating that they had never been cited before. This and the claim that “I didn’t know that rule” will not be tolerated. Members are charged with familiarizing themselves with association rules, regulations and policy and with following them.

After a reading of new members and a motion to welcome them, the board adjourned.

A child is like a butterfly in the wind. Some can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different. Each one is special. Each one is beautiful.
